Aman Kyoto

A relative newcomer that only opened its doors in 2019, Aman Kyoto is already our favourite stay in the city. Everything about the estate is effortlessly cool, but the highlights are the privacy and a supreme connection with Kyoto’s nature.

Stay at Aman Kyoto

Enter an exquisite and very private hideaway that’s wrapped in foliage. Soaring cedar, cherry and maple trees are your immediate neighbours. Wild flowers, bouldered pathways and walls of moss dominate morning strolls. This nature is framed excellently via floor-to-ceiling windows and Kyoto’s treasures are just outside the door. But first, a quiet hour soaking in mineral-rich onsen waters, followed by private dining in one of the hotel’s secret spots.

Location

This nature-entrenched property presents a new side to Kyoto, tucked away in a sleepy northern district of the city. However, several attractions such as Kinkakuji and the Golden Pavilion Temple are only a 15-minute walk, while Kyoto Station is a 30-minute drive.

Rooms

Sleek and chic, but also highly serene and calm, the 26 suites here all embrace minimalist luxury. Scattered within six pavilions, stays offer a modern take on the traditional ryokan inn, complete with tatami mat floors, light wood screens and humble decor.

Who is it for

This boutique hotel is a delightful base for couples. Privacy is paramount and you can easily be in your own romantic bubble, in the city. All guests have their own space here and families with children of all ages are also welcome, with flower arranging and origami workshops among the list of entertainment.

Facilities & activities

Facilities are marvellous in their simplicity, and comprise an arrival pavilion, two top-notch restaurants and a garden-set spa that hosts hot spring onsen bathing. Beyond this, guests can enjoy electric biking, forest meditation, Japanese tea ceremonies and private tours to local temples.
