Fingers of sandstone carved by nature. A million hues of red, shimmering in a canyon. Remote and dusty hiking trails, then opulent lodges in the middle of nowhere. Utah is a treasure chest of spectacular landscapes, from white peaks to sandstone arches, epic canyons to roaring rapids. It’s a destination for people who love the outdoors, or people who simply want to escape into a world without crowds or noise.
Getting here and around
Salt Lake City is Utah’s main airport and does have flight connections to Western Europe. Getting around Utah is a dream if you like big open spaces. It’s an American state for a beautiful road trip, plus there are helicopters to take you into the national parks.
Climate & seasons
Temperature extremes mean a trip to Utah should be planned carefully based on what you want to do. March to May and September to October are the best months for hiking. The summer heat is fierce from June to August so you’ll need to be near the waterside to cool off. Ski season runs from December to February and you’ll find some of the world’s fluffiest, driest snow here.
Where to go
Five national parks plus over 25 national landmarks make Utah an adventure state. If you don’t like spending your holidays outdoors, don’t even consider coming here. Go to Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Moab, Canyonlands, Zion and Monument Valley. Visit the magical Lake Powell and the northern rim of the Grand Canyon is just down the road. It’s much quieter and less touristed than the southern rim, and just as beautiful. And then there’s a lot more, depending on the adventure you want to make.
What to do
Utah is a hiker’s, biker’s and skier’s paradise. The experience is mostly about being outside in these remarkable landscapes.
