Cape Weligama

Homely Indian Ocean resort with dreamy views and amazing service. A boutique Relais & Chateaux property that’s easy to incorporate into a Sri Lanka holiday.

Stay at Cape Weligama

Tropical gardens and villas with terracotta tiles set the scene at Cape Weligama, a delightful property perched above the Indian Ocean. It’s a charming place to relax and unwind, with the dazzling views and swimming pools. Both hospitality and gastronomy are superb, and there’s the prospect of adventures should you wish. The beach itself is very small and although there’s a new beach club and you can swim, it’s not a beach resort per se. More a place to completely disconnect on the coast.

Location

Perched on a headland with magnificent views over the Indian Ocean, on Sri Lanka’s south coast. It’s less than an hour by road from Galle and around 2.5 hours from Colombo.

Rooms

We’d avoid the entry-level rooms and suites, as they lack pools and the views aren’t that special. Villas are more private and spacious, all with distinct furnishing showcasing Sri Lankan craftsmanship and design. Most villas share an infinity swimming pool with one or two others, except the Pool Pavilion, which has a private pool and the ultimate views.

Who is it for

Definitely worth a few nights for couples and families. Cape Weligama is a distinctive property that makes a great addition to a journey around Sri Lanka.

Facilities & activities

This is a place to come and unwind with stellar views. Go to clifftop viewpoints for drinks and private dining, or just lay back around the gardens and villas. Hang out at the new beach club or around the pools. It’s a good place to go surfing and whale watching, also cycling and diving should you wish. We also like the new kids club, called the Forest School.
