Stay at Wild Coast Tented Lodge
Elephants dipping their trunks into the swimming pool. Sloth bears and langur monkeys in the trees. Leopards are often just a few minutes away, in Yala National Park. Wild Coast Tented Lodge feels raw and wild, on a rugged stretch of beach on the edge of Sri Lanka’s premier game reserve. Yet it’s also a Relais & Chateaux property with an incredibly distinctive design style, two more reasons why this is an unmissable part of a Sri Lanka holiday.
Location
In the forests of Yala National Park, yet also located on an Indian Ocean beach. Wild Coast Tented Lodge has a scarcely believable location that’s home to elephants, leopards and sloth bears. We recommend coming here by seaplane, a 30-minute flight from Ceylon Tea Trails or 45 minutes from Colombo.
Rooms
The unusual cocoon tents are a nice take on vintage safari luxury, with copper bathtubs, high ceilings and nice decks. The cocoons are not overly spacious but this lodge is all about enjoying the outdoors. It’s definitely worth getting a Cocoon Pool Suite, with its private plunge pool and jungle views. We love the Family Cocoon Pool Suite, which has a separate “urchin” connected by a wooden footbridge, a very fun place for kids to sleep in the wilderness.
Who is it for
This is the best safari lodge in Sri Lanka. It’s also very welcoming for families and children can join a junior ranger program. However, we wouldn’t recommend the destination and property for very young children and babies.
Facilities & activities
This is a luxury tented camp safari experience in Sri Lanka, that centres around your remarkable experiences with animals. There are lots of monkeys, birds and elephants, discovered on game drives and sometimes on walks. Notably, the area has one of the world’s densest leopard populations. Wild Coast Tented Lodge is also a Relais & Chateaux property and the gastronomy is superb, especially given the remote location.
