The Dead Sea is a peculiar place. Muddy banks glisten white with encrusted salt. Crumbling red mountains are scarred by narrow rivers and valleys. There’s really nowhere else like the lowest place on earth.
This is not a beach destination. The water is so salty it burns your eyes. But it’s incredibly rejuvenating. First bathe. Then smother yourself in mud. Let it bake dry in the sun. Then wash it off as you float in the water.
That’s the relaxation part. Now hike into one of the wadis (canyons) feeding the Dead Sea, in search of a waterfall. Next jump, swim and climb back down. It’s called canyoning, a great adventure. Now relax some more and float in the Dead Sea at sunset.
